Metasepia pfefferi is the scientific name for my favorite species of cuttlefish, the flamboyant cuttlefish.
It’s super cool because it walks along the seafloor rather than swimming like most cuttlefish. It’s also highly toxic and (like most cuttlefish and many cephalopods) can drastically alter its color and texture to hide or to warn predators. Lastly, it’s tiny (like 3 inches in length) and therefore adorable.
